Kaltxì, ma eylan!
The culmination of a project we’ve been working on for some time is now available on YouTube. Episode 9 in the “Expedition Pandora” series, the one on communication, is now available in Na’vi—in fact, in Na’vi nì’aw!
The idea behind this project came from Josh Izzo at Lightstorm, who thought it would be fun to have a version of the communication episode entirely in Na’vi, without subtitles, as a gift to the lì’fyaolo’. Of course I agreed enthusiastically and began working on the translation. Once it was complete, I recorded the text, and the techs at Wild Card Creative Group, who work with Lightstorm, integrated it into the video. I think they did a fine job.
As a (hopefully enjoyable!) listening exercise, this narrative contains a fair amount of abstract terminology and isn’t always easy to decipher. Along the way, you may discover a new root or two. But the effort will be worthwhile! At some point I’ll post the entire text, but right now I think it’ll be more productive to see how far you can get without a crutch. (The English version of Episode 9 is readily available, but try to resist the temptation to turn to it too soon! 🙂 )
I hope the accuracy of the grammar and pronunciation is high! But as you all know very well, I’m hardly perfect, so if you discover any goofs, please let me know. 😀
