Kxì, ma frapo!
For the next installment in our series of author-read Na’vi compositions, I’m delighted to present Part 1 of an affecting story by Tsm. Tekre about an unusual relationship on Pandora. Fpìl oel futa tsaw sayunu ayngar.
I thought it would be helpful to break the story up into smaller chunks. As before, I’ve listed (in alphabetical order) some vocabulary relevant to each section that you might want to review before listening. Keep in mind that the actual forms of these words in the story, with appropriate prefixes, infixes, or suffixes, may differ from the “citation forms” I’ve listed.
Once you’ve listened several times, check the spoilers to see the Na’vi text, and listen again as you read along.

Section 1
Vocabulary: lang, ngeyn, tseri

Section 2
Vocabulary: fwìng, hifwo, kawkxan, kawnglan, tsray

Vocabulary: fewi, hona, kaym, nìlam, tätxaw
Mefo näpìn fìtsap txankrr, nìlnomum sì nìfnu. Mefo txopu ke si. ’Evengur fìpalulukan lam hona ulte palulukanìl fpìl futa po tsun uvan sivi Na’vihu. I’ve been using this story in a few translation practice sessions recently and have found a lot of mistakes we both missed back then when it was posted here – maybe it makes sense to add them as a warning to the beginning fo the post? The audios cannot be edited of course x) What I found:
– Sektion one: “luke fwa sa’nokìl tseri” – -l ending missing (as it is short for “without that the mother sees (it/that)”)
– po tsun livang na’rìngit apxa – in the story, the po has a -l ending which shouldn’t be there due to modal verb construction
– Section 3: po new ivomum teyngta – again, in the story it’s pol, wrong -l ending
– Palulukan lu kxutu Na’viyä nìyrr – in the story it’s “Ayfalulukan”, but since this is a general statement about thanators (they generally are a natural enemy of the Na’vi) singular should be used
– Section 5: nìlenomum sì nìfnu – nìlenomum is misspelled as nìlnomum. I know that at some point I believed nì + le -> nìl- to be a productive process so that’s I think why I made that mistake, but i think later i found out it isn#t, so while “nìlnomum” makes perfectly sense as a shortened version to me, it should actually be “nìlenomum” I guess to comply with the dictionary
– In general I was wondering about if my usage of the word “Na’vi” is correct, as it means “the people, the volk”, but I used it to speak about a single Na’vi person. From what we know, that’s wrong, right? So I should have used “‘eveng” or “‘evi” the entire time i guess.
That’s just the definite mistakes i noticed, now, four years after writing it, I also see a lot of stuff that’s not wrong, but definitely questinable style xD Even though I’m kinda embarassed seeing this online here with all the mistakes, it also makes me proud how easy i can now find these mistakes and how “wrong” they feel when reading, as it shows how much I improved and how much i actually gained a feeling for the language 😀 I’ll gonna read over the second part again soon too.
And of course I forgot one: Na’viru a’ewan smon ayvur teri txewma ayfalulukan
